I was born on June 20th, 1957in Newcastle upon Tyne, England to Ken and
Audrey Nixon (Barnes). I have one sister, Nadé (Julie).
The family emigrated to Canada in 1965 settling in Nepean Ontario
just outside Ottawa. During that time we lived at 67 Horner Drive
in a subdivision known as Lakeview. I attended Lakeview Public
School then Bayshore Public for grades 7 and 8. I then attended
Bell High School for four years and completed my final term at
Centennial High School.
I then attended the University of Waterloo. My first work-term in
January to March of 1977 I ended up in Thompson Manitoba. After
leaving school I returned to Ottawa where I was performing contract
programming primarily for the federal government. Joe Clarke, who
was briefly Prime Minister, cancelled all contracts leaving me to
look further afield for work.
I moved to Toronto in 1979 and started with the then fledgling
outfit Geac Computers. After a brief stint in the banking software
group, I moved to the library automation division. I have been involved
with library automation systems ever since that time.
I was married in 1986 to Marzia Del Bianco, who wisely decided
to retain her surname. We have two wonderful children, Kyle and
David. We moved to Unionville (Markham) in 1988 and remain there to this day.
